Surah Ash-Shu'araa
سُورَةُ الشُّعَرَاءِ
Page 371 (Verses from 84 to 111)
وَٱجْعَل لِّى لِسَانَ صِدْقٍ فِى ٱلْءَاخِرِينَ
وَٱجْعَلْنِى مِن وَرَثَةِ جَنَّةِ ٱلنَّعِيمِ
وَٱغْفِرْ لِأَبِىٓ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ مِنَ ٱلضَّآلِّينَ
وَلَا تُخْزِنِى يَوْمَ يُبْعَثُونَ
يَوْمَ لَا يَنفَعُ مَالٌ وَلَا بَنُونَ
إِلَّا مَنْ أَتَى ٱللَّهَ بِقَلْبٍ سَلِيمٍ
وَأُزْلِفَتِ ٱلْجَنَّةُ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ
وَبُرِّزَتِ ٱلْجَحِيمُ لِلْغَاوِينَ
وَقِيلَ لَهُمْ أَيْنَ مَا كُنتُمْ تَعْبُدُونَ
مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ هَلْ يَنصُرُونَكُمْ أَوْ يَنتَصِرُونَ
فَكُبْكِبُوا۟ فِيهَا هُمْ وَٱلْغَاوُۥنَ
وَجُنُودُ إِبْلِيسَ أَجْمَعُونَ
قَالُوا۟ وَهُمْ فِيهَا يَخْتَصِمُونَ
تَٱللَّهِ إِن كُنَّا لَفِى ضَلَٰلٍ مُّبِينٍ
إِذْ نُسَوِّيكُم بِرَبِّ ٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ
وَمَآ أَضَلَّنَآ إِلَّا ٱلْمُجْرِمُونَ
فَمَا لَنَا مِن شَٰفِعِينَ
وَلَا صَدِيقٍ حَمِيمٍ
فَلَوْ أَنَّ لَنَا كَرَّةً فَنَكُونَ مِنَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ
إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَءَايَةً ۖ وَمَا كَانَ أَكْثَرُهُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ
وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَهُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ
كَذَّبَتْ قَوْمُ نُوحٍ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ
إِذْ قَالَ لَهُمْ أَخُوهُمْ نُوحٌ أَلَا تَتَّقُونَ
إِنِّى لَكُمْ رَسُولٌ أَمِينٌ
فَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ
وَمَآ أَسْـَٔلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ أَجْرٍ ۖ إِنْ أَجْرِىَ إِلَّا عَلَىٰ رَبِّ ٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ
فَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ
۞ قَالُوٓا۟ أَنُؤْمِنُ لَكَ وَٱتَّبَعَكَ ٱلْأَرْذَلُونَ

Tafsir of Surah Ash-Shu'araa (Arberry: A. J. Arberry)
English Translation
And grant me a reputation of honor among later generations.English Transliteration
WaijAAal lee lisana sidqin fee alakhireena
and appoint me a tongue of truthfulness among the others.
English Translation
And place me among the inheritors of the Garden of Pleasure.English Transliteration
WaijAAalnee min warathati jannati alnnaAAeemi
Make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss
English Translation
And forgive my father. Indeed, he has been of those astray.English Transliteration
Waighfir liabee innahu kana mina alddalleena
and forgive my father, for he is one of those astray.
English Translation
And do not disgrace me on the Day they are [all] resurrected -English Transliteration
Wala tukhzinee yawma yubAAathoona
Degrade me not upon the day when they are raised up,
English Translation
The Day when there will not benefit [anyone] wealth or childrenEnglish Transliteration
Yawma la yanfaAAu malun wala banoona
the day when neither wealth nor sons shall profit
English Translation
But only one who comes to Allah with a sound heart."English Transliteration
Illa man ata Allaha biqalbin saleemin
except for him who comes to God with a pure heart.
English Translation
And Paradise will be brought near [that Day] to the righteous.English Transliteration
Waozlifati aljannatu lilmuttaqeena
And Paradise shall be brought forward for the godfearing,
English Translation
And Hellfire will be brought forth for the deviators,English Transliteration
Waburrizati aljaheemu lilghaweena
and Hell advanced for the perverse.
English Translation
And it will be said to them, "Where are those you used to worshipEnglish Transliteration
Waqeela lahum ayna ma kuntum taAAbudoona
It shall be said to them, 'Where is that you were serving
English Translation
Other than Allah? Can they help you or help themselves?"English Transliteration
Min dooni Allahi hal yansuroonakum aw yantasiroona
apart from God? Do they help you or help themselves?'
English Translation
So they will be overturned into Hellfire, they and the deviatorsEnglish Transliteration
Fakubkiboo feeha hum waalghawoona
Then they shall be pitched into it, they and the perverse
English Translation
And the soldiers of Iblees, all together.English Transliteration
Wajunoodu ibleesa ajmaAAoona
and the hosts of Iblis, all together.
English Translation
They will say while they dispute therein,English Transliteration
Qaloo wahum feeha yakhtasimoona
They shall say, as they dispute there one with another,
English Translation
"By Allah, we were indeed in manifest errorEnglish Transliteration
TaAllahi in kunna lafee dalalin mubeenin
'By God, we were certainly in manifest error
English Translation
When we equated you with the Lord of the worlds.English Transliteration
Ith nusawweekum birabbi alAAalameena
when we made you equal with the Lord of all Being.
English Translation
And no one misguided us except the criminals.English Transliteration
Wama adallana illa almujrimoona
It was naught but the sinners that led us astray;
English Translation
So now we have no intercessorsEnglish Transliteration
Fama lana min shafiAAeena
so now we have no intercessors,
English Translation
And not a devoted friend.English Transliteration
Wala sadeeqin hameemin
no loyal friend.
English Translation
Then if we only had a return [to the world] and could be of the believers... "English Transliteration
Falaw anna lana karratan fanakoona mina almumineena
O that we might return again, and be among the believers!'
English Translation
Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers.English Transliteration
Inna fee thalika laayatan wama kana aktharuhum mumineena
Surely in that is a sign, yet most of them are not believers.
English Translation
And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful.English Transliteration
Wainna rabbaka lahuwa alAAazeezu alrraheemu
Surely thy Lord, He is the All-mighty, the All-compassionate.

The people of Noah denied the messengersEnglish Transliteration
Kaththabat qawmu noohin almursaleena
The people of Noah cried lies to the Envoys
English Translation
When their brother Noah said to them, "Will you not fear Allah?English Transliteration
Ith qala lahum akhoohum noohun ala tattaqoona
when their brother Noah said to them, 'Will you not be godfearing?
English Translation
Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger.English Transliteration
Innee lakum rasoolun ameenun
I am for you a faithful Messenger,
English Translation
So fear Allah and obey me.English Transliteration
Faittaqoo Allaha waateeAAooni
so serve you God, and obey you me.
English Translation
And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds.English Transliteration
Wama asalukum AAalayhi min ajrin in ajriya illa AAala rabbi alAAalameena
I ask of you no wage for this; my wage falls only upon the Lord of all Being;
English Translation
So fear Allah and obey me."English Transliteration
Faittaqoo Allaha waateeAAooni
so fear you God, and obey you me.'
English Translation
They said, "Should we believe you while you are followed by the lowest [class of people]?"English Transliteration
Qaloo anuminu laka waittabaAAaka alarthaloona
They said, 'Shall we believe thee, whom the vilest follow?'
