Tafsir of Verse 10, Surah Az-Zukhruf

ٱلَّذِى جَعَلَ لَكُمُ ٱلْأَرْضَ مَهْدًا وَجَعَلَ لَكُمْ فِيهَا سُبُلًا لَّعَلَّكُمْ تَهْتَدُونَ ﴿10﴾

Display verse 10, Surah Az-Zukhruf in the Quran

English Translation

[The one] who has made for you the earth a bed and made for you upon it roads that you might be guided (10)

English Transliteration

Allathee jaAAala lakumu alarda mahdan wajaAAala lakum feeha subulan laAAallakum tahtadoona (10)

Tafsir of Verse 10

He who appointed the earth to be a cradle for you, and appointed ways for you therein, that haply you may be guided; (10)

(Yea, the same that) has made for you the earth (like a carpet) spread out, and has made for you roads (and channels) therein, in order that ye may find guidance (on the way); (10)

Commentary

جَعَلَ لَكُمُ الْأَرْ‌ضَ مَهْدًا (has made the earth a cradle for you - 10) meaning that the comfort provided by the earth is that of a cradle; its apparent look of being a plain floor does not negate its being spherical.
