Surah Al-Qamar
سُورَةُ القَمَرِ
Page 528 (Verses from 1 to 6)

ٱقْتَرَبَتِ ٱلسَّاعَةُ وَٱنشَقَّ ٱلْقَمَرُ ﴿1﴾ وَإِن يَرَوْا۟ ءَايَةً يُعْرِضُوا۟ وَيَقُولُوا۟ سِحْرٌ مُّسْتَمِرٌّ ﴿2﴾ وَكَذَّبُوا۟ وَٱتَّبَعُوٓا۟ أَهْوَآءَهُمْ ۚ وَكُلُّ أَمْرٍ مُّسْتَقِرٌّ ﴿3﴾ وَلَقَدْ جَآءَهُم مِّنَ ٱلْأَنۢبَآءِ مَا فِيهِ مُزْدَجَرٌ ﴿4﴾ حِكْمَةٌۢ بَٰلِغَةٌ ۖ فَمَا تُغْنِ ٱلنُّذُرُ ﴿5﴾ فَتَوَلَّ عَنْهُمْ ۘ يَوْمَ يَدْعُ ٱلدَّاعِ إِلَىٰ شَىْءٍ نُّكُرٍ ﴿6﴾

Tafsir of Surah Al-Qamar (Yusuf Ali: Abdullah Yusuf Ali)

ٱقْتَرَبَتِ ٱلسَّاعَةُ وَٱنشَقَّ ٱلْقَمَرُ ﴿1﴾

English Translation

The Hour has come near, and the moon has split [in two]. (1)

English Transliteration

Iqtarabati alssaAAatu wainshaqqa alqamaru (1)

The Hour (of Judgment) is nigh, and the moon is cleft asunder. (1)

وَإِن يَرَوْا۟ ءَايَةً يُعْرِضُوا۟ وَيَقُولُوا۟ سِحْرٌ مُّسْتَمِرٌّ ﴿2﴾

English Translation

And if they see a miracle, they turn away and say, "Passing magic." (2)

English Transliteration

Wain yaraw ayatan yuAAridoo wayaqooloo sihrun mustamirrun (2)

But if they see a Sign, they turn away, and say, "This is (but) transient magic." (2)

وَكَذَّبُوا۟ وَٱتَّبَعُوٓا۟ أَهْوَآءَهُمْ ۚ وَكُلُّ أَمْرٍ مُّسْتَقِرٌّ ﴿3﴾

English Translation

And they denied and followed their inclinations. But for every matter is a [time of] settlement. (3)

English Transliteration

Wakaththaboo waittabaAAoo ahwaahum wakullu amrin mustaqirrun (3)

They reject (the warning) and follow their (own) lusts but every matter has its appointed time. (3)

وَلَقَدْ جَآءَهُم مِّنَ ٱلْأَنۢبَآءِ مَا فِيهِ مُزْدَجَرٌ ﴿4﴾

English Translation

And there has already come to them of information that in which there is deterrence - (4)

English Transliteration

Walaqad jaahum mina alanbai ma feehi muzdajarun (4)

There have already come to them Recitals wherein there is (enough) to check (them), (4)

حِكْمَةٌۢ بَٰلِغَةٌ ۖ فَمَا تُغْنِ ٱلنُّذُرُ ﴿5﴾

English Translation

Extensive wisdom - but warning does not avail [them]. (5)

English Transliteration

Hikmatun balighatun fama tughnee alnnuthuru (5)

Mature wisdom;- but (the preaching of) Warners profits them not. (5)

فَتَوَلَّ عَنْهُمْ ۘ يَوْمَ يَدْعُ ٱلدَّاعِ إِلَىٰ شَىْءٍ نُّكُرٍ ﴿6﴾

English Translation

So leave them, [O Muhammad]. The Day the Caller calls to something forbidding, (6)

English Transliteration

Fatawalla AAanhum yawma yadAAu alddaAAi ila shayin nukurin (6)

Therefore, (O Prophet,) turn away from them. The Day that the Caller will call (them) to a terrible affair, (6)
