وَٱلنَّٰزِعَٰتِ غَرْقًا ﴿1﴾ وَٱلنَّٰشِطَٰتِ نَشْطًا ﴿2﴾ وَٱلسَّٰبِحَٰتِ سَبْحًا ﴿3﴾ فَٱلسَّٰبِقَٰتِ سَبْقًا ﴿4﴾ فَٱلْمُدَبِّرَٰتِ أَمْرًا ﴿5﴾ يَوْمَ تَرْجُفُ ٱلرَّاجِفَةُ ﴿6﴾ تَتْبَعُهَا ٱلرَّادِفَةُ ﴿7﴾ قُلُوبٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ وَاجِفَةٌ ﴿8﴾ أَبْصَٰرُهَا خَٰشِعَةٌ ﴿9﴾ يَقُولُونَ أَءِنَّا لَمَرْدُودُونَ فِى ٱلْحَافِرَةِ ﴿10﴾ أَءِذَا كُنَّا عِظَٰمًا نَّخِرَةً ﴿11﴾ قَالُوا۟ تِلْكَ إِذًا كَرَّةٌ خَاسِرَةٌ ﴿12﴾ فَإِنَّمَا هِىَ زَجْرَةٌ وَٰحِدَةٌ ﴿13﴾ فَإِذَا هُم بِٱلسَّاهِرَةِ ﴿14﴾ هَلْ أَتَىٰكَ حَدِيثُ مُوسَىٰٓ ﴿15﴾

Tafsir of Surah An-Naazi'aat (Yusuf Ali: Abdullah Yusuf Ali)

وَٱلنَّٰزِعَٰتِ غَرْقًا ﴿1﴾

English Translation

By those [angels] who extract with violence (1)

English Transliteration

WaalnnaziAAati gharqan (1)

Tafsir of Verse 1

By the (angels) who tear out (the souls of the wicked) with violence; (1)

وَٱلنَّٰشِطَٰتِ نَشْطًا ﴿2﴾

English Translation

And [by] those who remove with ease (2)

English Transliteration

Waalnnashitati nashtan (2)

Tafsir of Verse 2

By those who gently draw out (the souls of the blessed); (2)

وَٱلسَّٰبِحَٰتِ سَبْحًا ﴿3﴾

English Translation

And [by] those who glide [as if] swimming (3)

English Transliteration

Waalssabihati sabhan (3)

Tafsir of Verse 3

And by those who glide along (on errands of mercy), (3)

فَٱلسَّٰبِقَٰتِ سَبْقًا ﴿4﴾

English Translation

And those who race each other in a race (4)

English Transliteration

Faalssabiqati sabqan (4)

Tafsir of Verse 4

Then press forward as in a race, (4)

فَٱلْمُدَبِّرَٰتِ أَمْرًا ﴿5﴾

English Translation

And those who arrange [each] matter, (5)

English Transliteration

Faalmudabbirati amran (5)

Tafsir of Verse 5

Then arrange to do (the Commands of their Lord), (5)

يَوْمَ تَرْجُفُ ٱلرَّاجِفَةُ ﴿6﴾

English Translation

On the Day the blast [of the Horn] will convulse [creation], (6)

English Transliteration

Yawma tarjufu alrrajifatu (6)

Tafsir of Verse 6

One Day everything that can be in commotion will be in violent commotion, (6)

تَتْبَعُهَا ٱلرَّادِفَةُ ﴿7﴾

English Translation

There will follow it the subsequent [one]. (7)

English Transliteration

TatbaAAuha alrradifatu (7)

Tafsir of Verse 7

Followed by oft-repeated (commotions): (7)

قُلُوبٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ وَاجِفَةٌ ﴿8﴾

English Translation

Hearts, that Day, will tremble, (8)

English Transliteration

Quloobun yawmaithin wajifatun (8)

Tafsir of Verse 8

Hearts that Day will be in agitation; (8)

أَبْصَٰرُهَا خَٰشِعَةٌ ﴿9﴾

English Translation

Their eyes humbled. (9)

English Transliteration

Absaruha khashiAAatun (9)

Tafsir of Verse 9

Cast down will be (their owners') eyes. (9)

يَقُولُونَ أَءِنَّا لَمَرْدُودُونَ فِى ٱلْحَافِرَةِ ﴿10﴾

English Translation

They are [presently] saying, "Will we indeed be returned to [our] former state [of life]? (10)

English Transliteration

Yaqooloona ainna lamardoodoona fee alhafirati (10)

Tafsir of Verse 10

They say (now): "What! shall we indeed be returned to (our) former state? (10)

أَءِذَا كُنَّا عِظَٰمًا نَّخِرَةً ﴿11﴾

English Translation

Even if we should be decayed bones? (11)

English Transliteration

Aitha kunna AAithaman nakhiratan (11)

Tafsir of Verse 11

"What! - when we shall have become rotten bones?" (11)

قَالُوا۟ تِلْكَ إِذًا كَرَّةٌ خَاسِرَةٌ ﴿12﴾

English Translation

They say, "That, then, would be a losing return." (12)

English Transliteration

Qaloo tilka ithan karratun khasiratun (12)

Tafsir of Verse 12

They say: "It would, in that case, be a return with loss!" (12)

فَإِنَّمَا هِىَ زَجْرَةٌ وَٰحِدَةٌ ﴿13﴾

English Translation

Indeed, it will be but one shout, (13)

English Transliteration

Fainnama hiya zajratun wahidatun (13)

Tafsir of Verse 13

But verily, it will be but a single (Compelling) Cry, (13)

فَإِذَا هُم بِٱلسَّاهِرَةِ ﴿14﴾

English Translation

And suddenly they will be [alert] upon the earth\'s surface. (14)

English Transliteration

Faitha hum bialssahirati (14)

Tafsir of Verse 14

When, behold, they will be in the (full) awakening (to Judgment). (14)

هَلْ أَتَىٰكَ حَدِيثُ مُوسَىٰٓ ﴿15﴾

English Translation

Has there reached you the story of Moses? - (15)

English Transliteration

Hal ataka hadeethu moosa (15)

Tafsir of Verse 15

Has the story of Moses reached thee? (15)
