Surah Al-Muminoon: Verse 52 - وإن هذه أمتكم أمة واحدة... - English
Tafsir of Verse 52, Surah Al-Muminoon
وَإِنَّ هَٰذِهِۦٓ أُمَّتُكُمْ أُمَّةً وَٰحِدَةً وَأَنَا۠ رَبُّكُمْ فَٱتَّقُونِ
English Translation
And indeed this, your religion, is one religion, and I am your Lord, so fear Me."English Transliteration
Wainna hathihi ommatukum ommatan wahidatan waana rabbukum faittaqooniTafsir of Verse 52
Surely this community of yours is one community, and I am your Lord; so fear Me.'
And verily this Brotherhood of yours is a single Brotherhood, and I am your Lord and Cherisher: therefore fear Me (and no other).
وَإِنَّ هَـٰذِهِ أُمَّتُكُمْ أُمَّةً وَاحِدَةً (And surely this is your creed, a single creed - 23:52). The word اُمَّہ is used to describe a group or the followers of a prophet. Sometimes it is also used in the sense of "faith", "creed" or "way of life", as in the verse وَجَدْنَا آبَاءَنَا عَلَىٰ أُمَّةٍ (We found our fathers upon a creed - 43:22). In the present verse the word ummah has been used in the latter sense.
