Surah As-Saaffaat
سُورَةُ الصَّافَّاتِ
Page 449 (Verses from 77 to 102)
وَجَعَلْنَا ذُرِّيَّتَهُۥ هُمُ ٱلْبَاقِينَ
وَتَرَكْنَا عَلَيْهِ فِى ٱلْءَاخِرِينَ
سَلَٰمٌ عَلَىٰ نُوحٍ فِى ٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ
إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِى ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ
إِنَّهُۥ مِنْ عِبَادِنَا ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ
ثُمَّ أَغْرَقْنَا ٱلْءَاخَرِينَ
۞ وَإِنَّ مِن شِيعَتِهِۦ لَإِبْرَٰهِيمَ
إِذْ جَآءَ رَبَّهُۥ بِقَلْبٍ سَلِيمٍ
إِذْ قَالَ لِأَبِيهِ وَقَوْمِهِۦ مَاذَا تَعْبُدُونَ
أَئِفْكًا ءَالِهَةً دُونَ ٱللَّهِ تُرِيدُونَ
فَمَا ظَنُّكُم بِرَبِّ ٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ
فَنَظَرَ نَظْرَةً فِى ٱلنُّجُومِ
فَقَالَ إِنِّى سَقِيمٌ
فَتَوَلَّوْا۟ عَنْهُ مُدْبِرِينَ
فَرَاغَ إِلَىٰٓ ءَالِهَتِهِمْ فَقَالَ أَلَا تَأْكُلُونَ
مَا لَكُمْ لَا تَنطِقُونَ
فَرَاغَ عَلَيْهِمْ ضَرْبًۢا بِٱلْيَمِينِ
فَأَقْبَلُوٓا۟ إِلَيْهِ يَزِفُّونَ
قَالَ أَتَعْبُدُونَ مَا تَنْحِتُونَ
وَٱللَّهُ خَلَقَكُمْ وَمَا تَعْمَلُونَ
قَالُوا۟ ٱبْنُوا۟ لَهُۥ بُنْيَٰنًا فَأَلْقُوهُ فِى ٱلْجَحِيمِ
فَأَرَادُوا۟ بِهِۦ كَيْدًا فَجَعَلْنَٰهُمُ ٱلْأَسْفَلِينَ
وَقَالَ إِنِّى ذَاهِبٌ إِلَىٰ رَبِّى سَيَهْدِينِ
رَبِّ هَبْ لِى مِنَ ٱلصَّٰلِحِينَ
فَبَشَّرْنَٰهُ بِغُلَٰمٍ حَلِيمٍ
فَلَمَّا بَلَغَ مَعَهُ ٱلسَّعْىَ قَالَ يَٰبُنَىَّ إِنِّىٓ أَرَىٰ فِى ٱلْمَنَامِ أَنِّىٓ أَذْبَحُكَ فَٱنظُرْ مَاذَا تَرَىٰ ۚ قَالَ يَٰٓأَبَتِ ٱفْعَلْ مَا تُؤْمَرُ ۖ سَتَجِدُنِىٓ إِن شَآءَ ٱللَّهُ مِنَ ٱلصَّٰبِرِينَ

Tafsir of Surah As-Saaffaat (Yusuf Ali: Abdullah Yusuf Ali)
English Translation
And We made his descendants those remaining [on the earth]English Transliteration
WajaAAalna thurriyyatahu humu albaqeena
And made his progeny to endure (on this earth);
English Translation
And left for him [favorable mention] among later generations:English Transliteration
Watarakna AAalayhi fee alakhireena
And We left (this blessing) for him among generations to come in later times:
English Translation
"Peace upon Noah among the worlds."English Transliteration
Salamun AAala noohin fee alAAalameena
"Peace and salutation to Noah among the nations!"
English Translation
Indeed, We thus reward the doers of good.English Transliteration
Inna kathalika najzee almuhsineena
Thus indeed do we reward those who do right.
English Translation
Indeed, he was of Our believing servants.English Transliteration
Innahu min AAibadina almumineena
For he was one of our believing Servants.
English Translation
Then We drowned the disbelievers.English Transliteration
Thumma aghraqna alakhareena
Then the rest we overwhelmed in the Flood.
English Translation
And indeed, among his kind was Abraham,English Transliteration
Wainna min sheeAAatihi laibraheema
Verily among those who followed his Way was Abraham.
English Translation
When he came to his Lord with a sound heartEnglish Transliteration
Ith jaa rabbahu biqalbin saleemin
Behold! he approached his Lord with a sound heart.
English Translation
[And] when he said to his father and his people, "What do you worship?English Transliteration
Ith qala liabeehi waqawmihi matha taAAbudoona
Behold! he said to his father and to his people, "What is that which ye worship?
English Translation
Is it falsehood [as] gods other than Allah you desire?English Transliteration
Aifkan alihatan doona Allahi tureedoona
"Is it a falsehood- gods other than Allah- that ye desire?
English Translation
Then what is your thought about the Lord of the worlds?"English Transliteration
Fama thannukum birabbi alAAalameena
"Then what is your idea about the Lord of the worlds?"
English Translation
And he cast a look at the starsEnglish Transliteration
Fanathara nathratan fee alnnujoomi
Then did he cast a glance at the Stars.
English Translation
And said, "Indeed, I am [about to be] ill."English Transliteration
Faqala innee saqeemun
And he said, "I am indeed sick (at heart)!"
English Translation
So they turned away from him, departing.English Transliteration
Fatawallaw AAanhu mudbireena
So they turned away from him, and departed.
English Translation
Then he turned to their gods and said, "Do you not eat?English Transliteration
Faragha ila alihatihim faqala ala takuloona
Then did he turn to their gods and said, "will ye not eat (of the offerings before you)?...
English Translation
What is [wrong] with you that you do not speak?"English Transliteration
Ma lakum la tantiqoona
"What is the matter with you that ye speak not (intelligently)?"
English Translation
And he turned upon them a blow with [his] right hand.English Transliteration
Faragha AAalayhim darban bialyameeni
Then did he turn upon them, striking (them) with the right hand.
English Translation
Then the people came toward him, hastening.English Transliteration
Faaqbaloo ilayhi yaziffoona
Then came (the worshippers) with hurried steps, and faced (him).
English Translation
He said, "Do you worship that which you [yourselves] carve,English Transliteration
Qala ataAAbudoona ma tanhitoona
He said: "Worship ye that which ye have (yourselves) carved?
English Translation
While Allah created you and that which you do?"English Transliteration
WaAllahu khalaqakum wama taAAmaloona
"But Allah has created you and your handwork!"
English Translation
They said, "Construct for him a furnace and throw him into the burning fire."English Transliteration
Qaloo ibnoo lahu bunyanan faalqoohu fee aljaheemi
They said, "Build him a furnace, and throw him into the blazing fire!"
English Translation
And they intended for him a plan, but We made them the most debased.English Transliteration
Faaradoo bihi kaydan fajaAAalnahumu alasfaleena
(This failing), they then sought a stratagem against him, but We made them the ones most humiliated!
English Translation
And [then] he said, "Indeed, I will go to [where I am ordered by] my Lord; He will guide me.English Transliteration
Waqala innee thahibun ila rabbee sayahdeeni
He said: "I will go to my Lord! He will surely guide me!
English Translation
My Lord, grant me [a child] from among the righteous."English Transliteration
Rabbi hab lee mina alssaliheena
"O my Lord! Grant me a righteous (son)!"
English Translation
So We gave him good tidings of a forbearing boy.English Transliteration
Fabashsharnahu bighulamin haleemin
So We gave him the good news of a boy ready to suffer and forbear.
English Translation
And when he reached with him [the age of] exertion, he said, "O my son, indeed I have seen in a dream that I [must] sacrifice you, so see what you think." He said, "O my father, do as you are commanded. You will find me, if Allah wills, of the steadfast."English Transliteration
Falamma balagha maAAahu alssaAAya qala ya bunayya innee ara fee almanami annee athbahuka faonthur matha tara qala ya abati ifAAal ma tumaru satajidunee in shaa Allahu mina alssabireena
Then, when (the son) reached (the age of) (serious) work with him, he said: "O my son! I see in vision that I offer thee in sacrifice: Now see what is thy view!" (The son) said: "O my father! Do as thou art commanded: thou will find me, if Allah so wills one practising Patience and Constancy!"
