Surah Taa-Haa
سُورَةُ طه
Page 314 (Verses from 38 to 51)
إِذْ أَوْحَيْنَآ إِلَىٰٓ أُمِّكَ مَا يُوحَىٰٓ
أَنِ ٱقْذِفِيهِ فِى ٱلتَّابُوتِ فَٱقْذِفِيهِ فِى ٱلْيَمِّ فَلْيُلْقِهِ ٱلْيَمُّ بِٱلسَّاحِلِ يَأْخُذْهُ عَدُوٌّ لِّى وَعَدُوٌّ لَّهُۥ ۚ وَأَلْقَيْتُ عَلَيْكَ مَحَبَّةً مِّنِّى وَلِتُصْنَعَ عَلَىٰ عَيْنِىٓ
إِذْ تَمْشِىٓ أُخْتُكَ فَتَقُولُ هَلْ أَدُلُّكُمْ عَلَىٰ مَن يَكْفُلُهُۥ ۖ فَرَجَعْنَٰكَ إِلَىٰٓ أُمِّكَ كَىْ تَقَرَّ عَيْنُهَا وَلَا تَحْزَنَ ۚ وَقَتَلْتَ نَفْسًا فَنَجَّيْنَٰكَ مِنَ ٱلْغَمِّ وَفَتَنَّٰكَ فُتُونًا ۚ فَلَبِثْتَ سِنِينَ فِىٓ أَهْلِ مَدْيَنَ ثُمَّ جِئْتَ عَلَىٰ قَدَرٍ يَٰمُوسَىٰ
وَٱصْطَنَعْتُكَ لِنَفْسِى
ٱذْهَبْ أَنتَ وَأَخُوكَ بِـَٔايَٰتِى وَلَا تَنِيَا فِى ذِكْرِى
ٱذْهَبَآ إِلَىٰ فِرْعَوْنَ إِنَّهُۥ طَغَىٰ
فَقُولَا لَهُۥ قَوْلًا لَّيِّنًا لَّعَلَّهُۥ يَتَذَكَّرُ أَوْ يَخْشَىٰ
قَالَا رَبَّنَآ إِنَّنَا نَخَافُ أَن يَفْرُطَ عَلَيْنَآ أَوْ أَن يَطْغَىٰ
قَالَ لَا تَخَافَآ ۖ إِنَّنِى مَعَكُمَآ أَسْمَعُ وَأَرَىٰ
فَأْتِيَاهُ فَقُولَآ إِنَّا رَسُولَا رَبِّكَ فَأَرْسِلْ مَعَنَا بَنِىٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ وَلَا تُعَذِّبْهُمْ ۖ قَدْ جِئْنَٰكَ بِـَٔايَةٍ مِّن رَّبِّكَ ۖ وَٱلسَّلَٰمُ عَلَىٰ مَنِ ٱتَّبَعَ ٱلْهُدَىٰٓ
إِنَّا قَدْ أُوحِىَ إِلَيْنَآ أَنَّ ٱلْعَذَابَ عَلَىٰ مَن كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ
قَالَ فَمَن رَّبُّكُمَا يَٰمُوسَىٰ
قَالَ رَبُّنَا ٱلَّذِىٓ أَعْطَىٰ كُلَّ شَىْءٍ خَلْقَهُۥ ثُمَّ هَدَىٰ
قَالَ فَمَا بَالُ ٱلْقُرُونِ ٱلْأُولَىٰ

Tafsir of Surah Taa-Haa (Yusuf Ali: Abdullah Yusuf Ali)
English Translation
When We inspired to your mother what We inspired,English Transliteration
Ith awhayna ila ommika ma yooha
"Behold! We sent to thy mother, by inspiration, the message:
English Translation
[Saying], \'Cast him into the chest and cast it into the river, and the river will throw it onto the bank; there will take him an enemy to Me and an enemy to him.\' And I bestowed upon you love from Me that you would be brought up under My eye.English Transliteration
Ani iqthifeehi fee alttabooti faiqthifeehi fee alyammi falyulqihi alyammu bialssahili yakhuthhu AAaduwwun lee waAAaduwwun lahu waalqaytu AAalayka mahabbatan minnee walitusnaAAa AAala AAaynee
"'Throw (the child) into the chest, and throw (the chest) into the river: the river will cast him up on the bank, and he will be taken up by one who is an enemy to Me and an enemy to him': But I cast (the garment of) love over thee from Me: and (this) in order that thou mayest be reared under Mine eye.
English Translation
[And We favored you] when your sister went and said, \'Shall I direct you to someone who will be responsible for him?\' So We restored you to your mother that she might be content and not grieve. And you killed someone, but We saved you from retaliation and tried you with a [severe] trial. And you remained [some] years among the people of Madyan. Then you came [here] at the decreed time, O Moses.English Transliteration
Ith tamshee okhtuka fataqoolu hal adullukum AAala man yakfuluhu farajaAAnaka ila ommika kay taqarra AAaynuha wala tahzana waqatalta nafsan fanajjaynaka mina alghammi wafatannaka futoonan falabithta sineena fee ahli madyana thumma jita AAala qadarin ya moosa
"Behold! thy sister goeth forth and saith, 'shall I show you one who will nurse and rear the (child)?' So We brought thee back to thy mother, that her eye might be cooled and she should not grieve. Then thou didst slay a man, but We saved thee from trouble, and We tried thee in various ways. Then didst thou tarry a number of years with the people of Midian. Then didst thou come hither as ordained, O Moses!
English Translation
And I produced you for Myself.English Transliteration
WaistanaAAtuka linafsee
"And I have prepared thee for Myself (for service)"..
English Translation
Go, you and your brother, with My signs and do not slacken in My remembrance.English Transliteration
Ithhab anta waakhooka biayatee wala taniya fee thikree
"Go, thou and thy brother, with My Signs, and slacken not, either of you, in keeping Me in remembrance.
English Translation
Go, both of you, to Pharaoh. Indeed, he has transgressed.English Transliteration
Ithhaba ila firAAawna innahu tagha
"Go, both of you, to Pharaoh, for he has indeed transgressed all bounds;
English Translation
And speak to him with gentle speech that perhaps he may be reminded or fear [Allah]."English Transliteration
Faqoola lahu qawlan layyinan laAAallahu yatathakkaru aw yakhsha
"But speak to him mildly; perchance he may take warning or fear (Allah)."
English Translation
They said, "Our Lord, indeed we are afraid that he will hasten [punishment] against us or that he will transgress."English Transliteration
Qala rabbana innana nakhafu an yafruta AAalayna aw an yatgha
They (Moses and Aaron) said: "Our Lord! We fear lest he hasten with insolence against us, or lest he transgress all bounds."
English Translation
[Allah] said, "Fear not. Indeed, I am with you both; I hear and I see.English Transliteration
Qala la takhafa innanee maAAakuma asmaAAu waara
He said: "Fear not: for I am with you: I hear and see (everything).
English Translation
So go to him and say, \'Indeed, we are messengers of your Lord, so send with us the Children of Israel and do not torment them. We have come to you with a sign from your Lord. And peace will be upon he who follows the guidance.English Transliteration
Fatiyahu faqoola inna rasoola rabbika faarsil maAAana banee israeela wala tuAAaththibhum qad jinaka biayatin min rabbika waalssalamu AAala mani ittabaAAa alhuda
"So go ye both to him, and say, 'Verily we are messengers sent by thy Lord: Send forth, therefore, the Children of Israel with us, and afflict them not: with a Sign, indeed, have we come from thy Lord! and peace to all who follow guidance!
English Translation
Indeed, it has been revealed to us that the punishment will be upon whoever denies and turns away.\' "English Transliteration
Inna qad oohiya ilayna anna alAAathaba AAala man kaththaba watawalla
"'Verily it has been revealed to us that the Penalty (awaits) those who reject and turn away.'"
English Translation
[Pharaoh] said, "So who is the Lord of you two, O Moses?"English Transliteration
Qala faman rabbukuma ya moosa
(When this message was delivered), (Pharaoh) said: "Who, then, O Moses, is the Lord of you two?"
English Translation
He said, "Our Lord is He who gave each thing its form and then guided [it]."English Transliteration
Qala rabbuna allathee aAAta kulla shayin khalqahu thumma hada
He said: "Our Lord is He Who gave to each (created) thing its form and nature, and further, gave (it) guidance."
English Translation
[Pharaoh] said, "Then what is the case of the former generations?"English Transliteration
Qala fama balu alqurooni aloola
(Pharaoh) said: "What then is the condition of previous generations?"
