Surah Al-Muddaththir
سُورَةُ المُدَّثِّرِ
Page 577 (Verses from 48 to 56)

فَمَا تَنفَعُهُمْ شَفَٰعَةُ ٱلشَّٰفِعِينَ ﴿48﴾ فَمَا لَهُمْ عَنِ ٱلتَّذْكِرَةِ مُعْرِضِينَ ﴿49﴾ كَأَنَّهُمْ حُمُرٌ مُّسْتَنفِرَةٌ ﴿50﴾ فَرَّتْ مِن قَسْوَرَةٍۭ ﴿51﴾ بَلْ يُرِيدُ كُلُّ ٱمْرِئٍ مِّنْهُمْ أَن يُؤْتَىٰ صُحُفًا مُّنَشَّرَةً ﴿52﴾ كَلَّا ۖ بَل لَّا يَخَافُونَ ٱلْءَاخِرَةَ ﴿53﴾ كَلَّآ إِنَّهُۥ تَذْكِرَةٌ ﴿54﴾ فَمَن شَآءَ ذَكَرَهُۥ ﴿55﴾ وَمَا يَذْكُرُونَ إِلَّآ أَن يَشَآءَ ٱللَّهُ ۚ هُوَ أَهْلُ ٱلتَّقْوَىٰ وَأَهْلُ ٱلْمَغْفِرَةِ ﴿56﴾

Tafsir of Surah Al-Muddaththir (Yusuf Ali: Abdullah Yusuf Ali)

فَمَا تَنفَعُهُمْ شَفَٰعَةُ ٱلشَّٰفِعِينَ ﴿48﴾

English Translation

So there will not benefit them the intercession of [any] intercessors. (48)

English Transliteration

Fama tanfaAAuhum shafaAAatu alshshafiAAeena (48)

Then will no intercession of (any) intercessors profit them. (48)

فَمَا لَهُمْ عَنِ ٱلتَّذْكِرَةِ مُعْرِضِينَ ﴿49﴾

English Translation

Then what is [the matter] with them that they are, from the reminder, turning away (49)

English Transliteration

Fama lahum AAani alttathkirati muAArideena (49)

Then what is the matter with them that they turn away from admonition?- (49)

كَأَنَّهُمْ حُمُرٌ مُّسْتَنفِرَةٌ ﴿50﴾

English Translation

As if they were alarmed donkeys (50)

English Transliteration

Kaannahum humurun mustanfiratun (50)

As if they were affrighted asses, (50)

فَرَّتْ مِن قَسْوَرَةٍۭ ﴿51﴾

English Translation

Fleeing from a lion? (51)

English Transliteration

Farrat min qaswaratin (51)

Fleeing from a lion! (51)

بَلْ يُرِيدُ كُلُّ ٱمْرِئٍ مِّنْهُمْ أَن يُؤْتَىٰ صُحُفًا مُّنَشَّرَةً ﴿52﴾

English Translation

Rather, every person among them desires that he would be given scriptures spread about. (52)

English Transliteration

Bal yureedu kullu imriin minhum an yuta suhufan munashsharatan (52)

Forsooth, each one of them wants to be given scrolls (of revelation) spread out! (52)

كَلَّا ۖ بَل لَّا يَخَافُونَ ٱلْءَاخِرَةَ ﴿53﴾

English Translation

No! But they do not fear the Hereafter. (53)

English Transliteration

Kalla bal la yakhafoona alakhirata (53)

By no means! But they fear not the Hereafter, (53)

كَلَّآ إِنَّهُۥ تَذْكِرَةٌ ﴿54﴾

English Translation

No! Indeed, the Qur\'an is a reminder (54)

English Transliteration

Kalla innahu tathkiratun (54)

Nay, this surely is an admonition: (54)

فَمَن شَآءَ ذَكَرَهُۥ ﴿55﴾

English Translation

Then whoever wills will remember it. (55)

English Transliteration

Faman shaa thakarahu (55)

Let any who will, keep it in remembrance! (55)

وَمَا يَذْكُرُونَ إِلَّآ أَن يَشَآءَ ٱللَّهُ ۚ هُوَ أَهْلُ ٱلتَّقْوَىٰ وَأَهْلُ ٱلْمَغْفِرَةِ ﴿56﴾

English Translation

And they will not remember except that Allah wills. He is worthy of fear and adequate for [granting] forgiveness. (56)

English Transliteration

Wama yathkuroona illa an yashaa Allahu huwa ahlu alttaqwa waahlu almaghfirati (56)

But none will keep it in remembrance except as Allah wills: He is the Lord of Righteousness, and the Lord of Forgiveness. (56)
