Surah As-Saaffaat
سُورَةُ الصَّافَّاتِ
Page 451 (Verses from 127 to 153)
فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَإِنَّهُمْ لَمُحْضَرُونَ
إِلَّا عِبَادَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلْمُخْلَصِينَ
وَتَرَكْنَا عَلَيْهِ فِى ٱلْءَاخِرِينَ
سَلَٰمٌ عَلَىٰٓ إِلْ يَاسِينَ
إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِى ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ
إِنَّهُۥ مِنْ عِبَادِنَا ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ
وَإِنَّ لُوطًا لَّمِنَ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ
إِذْ نَجَّيْنَٰهُ وَأَهْلَهُۥٓ أَجْمَعِينَ
إِلَّا عَجُوزًا فِى ٱلْغَٰبِرِينَ
ثُمَّ دَمَّرْنَا ٱلْءَاخَرِينَ
وَإِنَّكُمْ لَتَمُرُّونَ عَلَيْهِم مُّصْبِحِينَ
وَبِٱلَّيْلِ ۗ أَفَلَا تَعْقِلُونَ
وَإِنَّ يُونُسَ لَمِنَ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ
إِذْ أَبَقَ إِلَى ٱلْفُلْكِ ٱلْمَشْحُونِ
فَسَاهَمَ فَكَانَ مِنَ ٱلْمُدْحَضِينَ
فَٱلْتَقَمَهُ ٱلْحُوتُ وَهُوَ مُلِيمٌ
فَلَوْلَآ أَنَّهُۥ كَانَ مِنَ ٱلْمُسَبِّحِينَ
لَلَبِثَ فِى بَطْنِهِۦٓ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ يُبْعَثُونَ
۞ فَنَبَذْنَٰهُ بِٱلْعَرَآءِ وَهُوَ سَقِيمٌ
وَأَنۢبَتْنَا عَلَيْهِ شَجَرَةً مِّن يَقْطِينٍ
وَأَرْسَلْنَٰهُ إِلَىٰ مِا۟ئَةِ أَلْفٍ أَوْ يَزِيدُونَ
فَـَٔامَنُوا۟ فَمَتَّعْنَٰهُمْ إِلَىٰ حِينٍ
فَٱسْتَفْتِهِمْ أَلِرَبِّكَ ٱلْبَنَاتُ وَلَهُمُ ٱلْبَنُونَ
أَمْ خَلَقْنَا ٱلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةَ إِنَٰثًا وَهُمْ شَٰهِدُونَ
أَلَآ إِنَّهُم مِّنْ إِفْكِهِمْ لَيَقُولُونَ
وَلَدَ ٱللَّهُ وَإِنَّهُمْ لَكَٰذِبُونَ
أَصْطَفَى ٱلْبَنَاتِ عَلَى ٱلْبَنِينَ

Tafsir of Surah As-Saaffaat (Arberry: A. J. Arberry)
English Translation
And they denied him, so indeed, they will be brought [for punishment],English Transliteration
Fakaththaboohu fainnahum lamuhdaroona
But they cried him lies; so they will be among the arraigned,
English Translation
Except the chosen servants of Allah.English Transliteration
Illa AAibada Allahi almukhlaseena
except for God's sincere servants;
English Translation
And We left for him [favorable mention] among later generations:English Transliteration
Watarakna AAalayhi fee alakhireena
and We left for him among the later folk
English Translation
"Peace upon Elias."English Transliteration
Salamun AAala il yaseena
'Peace be upon Elias!'
English Translation
Indeed, We thus reward the doers of good.English Transliteration
Inna kathalika najzee almuhsineena
Even so We recompense the good-doers;
English Translation
Indeed, he was of Our believing servants.English Transliteration
Innahu min AAibadina almumineena
he was among Our believing servants.
English Translation
And indeed, Lot was among the messengers.English Transliteration
Wainna lootan lamina almursaleena
Lot too was one of the Envoys;
English Translation
[So mention] when We saved him and his family, all,English Transliteration
Ith najjaynahu waahlahu ajmaAAeena
when We delivered him and his people all together,
English Translation
Except his wife among those who remained [with the evildoers].English Transliteration
Illa AAajoozan fee alghabireena
save an old woman among those that tarried;
English Translation
Then We destroyed the others.English Transliteration
Thumma dammarna alakhareena
then We destroyed the others,
English Translation
And indeed, you pass by them in the morningEnglish Transliteration
Wainnakum latamurroona AAalayhim musbiheena
and you pass by them in the morning
English Translation
And at night. Then will you not use reason?English Transliteration
Wabiallayli afala taAAqiloona
and in the night; will you not understand?
English Translation
And indeed, Jonah was among the messengers.English Transliteration
Wainna yoonusa lamina almursaleena
Jonah too was one of the Envoys;
English Translation
[Mention] when he ran away to the laden ship.English Transliteration
Ith abaqa ila alfulki almashhooni
when he ran away to the laden ship
English Translation
And he drew lots and was among the losers.English Transliteration
Fasahama fakana mina almudhadeena
and cast lots, and was of the rebutted,
English Translation
Then the fish swallowed him, while he was blameworthy.English Transliteration
Failtaqamahu alhootu wahuwa muleemun
then the whale swallowed him down, and he blameworthy.
English Translation
And had he not been of those who exalt Allah,English Transliteration
Falawla annahu kana mina almusabbiheena
Now had he not been of those that glorify God,
English Translation
He would have remained inside its belly until the Day they are resurrected.English Transliteration
Lalabitha fee batnihi ila yawmi yubAAathoona
he would have tarried in its belly until the day they shall be raised;
English Translation
But We threw him onto the open shore while he was ill.English Transliteration
Fanabathnahu bialAAarai wahuwa saqeemun
but We cast him upon the wilderness, and he was sick,
English Translation
And We caused to grow over him a gourd vine.English Transliteration
Waanbatna AAalayhi shajaratan min yaqteenin
and We caused to grow over him a tree of gourds.
English Translation
And We sent him to [his people of] a hundred thousand or more.English Transliteration
Waarsalnahu ila miati alfin aw yazeedoona
Then We sent him unto a hundred thousand, or more,
English Translation
And they believed, so We gave them enjoyment [of life] for a time.English Transliteration
Faamanoo famattaAAnahum ila heenin
and they believed; so We gave them enjoyment for a while.
English Translation
So inquire of them, [O Muhammad], "Does your Lord have daughters while they have sons?English Transliteration
Faistaftihim alirabbika albanatu walahumu albanoona
So ask them for a pronouncement -- Has thy Lord daughters, and they sons?
English Translation
Or did We create the angels as females while they were witnesses?"English Transliteration
Am khalaqna almalaikata inathan wahum shahidoona
Or did We create the angels females, while they were witnesses?
English Translation
Unquestionably, it is out of their [invented] falsehood that they say,English Transliteration
Ala innahum min ifkihim layaqooloona
Is it not of their own calumny that they say,
English Translation
" Allah has begotten," and indeed, they are liars.English Transliteration
Walada Allahu wainnahum lakathiboona
'God has begotten?' They are truly liars.
English Translation
Has He chosen daughters over sons?English Transliteration
Astafa albanati AAala albaneena
Has He chosen daughters above sons?
